Have you felt more forgetful during pregnancy? Or maybe postpartum life is just crazy busy and it’s mentally draining you. Approximately 50-80% of pregnant women report forgetfulness or brain fogginess during pregnancy. There are many reasons for pregnancy brain including fluctuating hormones, sleep deprivation, and stress. Research has shown that brain stimulating games are a fun way to counter this “brain drain.” Here is a list of my top 5 brain boosting games:
Do you remember Concentration? I loved this game growing up. It involved laying a group of cards face down, then turning over two at a time, with the goals of finding matching pairs. This is a great way to improve memory, attention to detail, focus, and thinking skills. It’s also great for all ages.
I love Tetris! I remember playing this on my Game Boy. Now it is available across many gaming platforms. It’s a great way to improve mental reaction time, mental efficiency, and spatial awareness.
3) Crossword Puzzles and Word Searches
Doing these activities on a regular basis are also great ways to boost your brain power. They improve brain function, memory, concentration, problem solving skills, and patience. Not to mention, you can impress your family and friends with your improved vocabulary.
Sudoku is a great numbers game that improves your logical thinking, concentration, recall, and memory. I also have a huge feeling of accomplishment when I solve the puzzle!
5) Rubik’s Cube
Invented in 1974, the Rubik’s Cube has been entertaining children and adults for years. I had one growing up as well! Trying to align and match the colors definitely grows your patience. It also improves your memory, quick thinking skills, mental reaction time, and concentration.
These are my favorite five brain boosting games, but there are many others available too. What are your favorite brain games? Pick your favorite and start working your pregnancy brain today.
